WORK EXPERIENCE

January 2010 to present Chief of Police with Tupelo Police Department, Tupelo, MS. Responsibilities are to plan, direct, manage and oversee the activities and operations of the Tupelo Police Department including field operations, criminal investigations, management services, records, communications and related support services; to coordinate assigned activities with other city departments and outside agencies; and to provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Mayor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assume full management responsibility for all Tupelo Police Department services and activities including maintenance of law and order, protection of life and property, regulation of traffic, apprehension, arrest and detention of law violators and maintenance of police records; recommend and administer policies and procedures. Manage the development and implementation of Tupelo Police Department goals, objectives, policies and priorities for each assigned service ares; establish within city policy, appropriate service and staffing levels; allocate resources accordingly. Continuously monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; assess and monitor workload, administrative and support systems and internal reporting relationships; identify opportunities for improvement; direct the implementation of changes. Represent the Tupelo Police Department to other city departments, elected officials and outside agencies; explain, justify and defend the Tupelo Police Department programs, policies, and activities; negotiate and resolve sensitive, significant and controversial issues. Select, train, motivate and evaluate Tupelo Police Department personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and terminate procedures. Confer with citizens and city officials, initiate internal investigations, provide staff support to a variety of boards and commissions, respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquires and complaints.

2004 to 2009 – Captain with the Lee County Sheriff’s Department, Tupelo, MS. Responsibilities were to administer the day-to-day operations as the Jail Commander. Director of North Mississippi Regional Training Academy where we teach 3 to 4 basic corrections classes each year. We also teach various advanced law enforcement classes: (Defensive Tactics, Leadership, FTO, S.W.A.T. tactics and Firearms) Began the S.W.A.T. Team for Lee County Sheriff's Dept. in 2001. Also, teaches for North Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Center, Tupelo, MS

Tony started his law enforcement career in 1994 with Mississippi State University Police Department in Starkville, MS. After leaving MSU he went to work for the Tupelo Police Department where he worked the street as a patrol officer for 2 years. He then moved to the Academy (North Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Center) as one of the staff instructors for 2 years. (Defensive Tactice, P.T. Firearms and Driving). He then moved to the Special Operations Group, (SOG) unit where he worked the high crime, gang and drug areas of the city. After leaving Tupelo in 1999 he worked for Harrison County Sheriff’s Department in Gulfport, MS at the Southern Regional Public Safety Institute as a staff instructor. (Defensive Tactices, P.T. Firearms and Driving). And was a part of the Motor Carrier Unit, which inspected commercial motor vehicles. In 2001 Tony moved back to Tupelo to work for the Lee County Sheriff's Department as the Training Officer. Then when a new Sheriff was elected Tony was promoted to Captain over the jail, where he administered the day-to-day operations as the Jail Commander. Director of North Mississippi Regional Training Academy. Then in 2010 he was appointed as the Chief of Police where he is currently working.
